I decided this year
to devote a page to my own cats: Panser, PJ, Tamarin-Junior or TJ for short,
Simone, Khalu, Suleiman, Lucky and Ender.
I have lived here
since '99 and Simone was left behind by the previous owners. Of course, I took
him in along with another cat they left behind Pushkin. Unfortunately, Pushkin
went out one morning and never returned. It was after the heartbreaking loss of
Pushkin and of Tamarin that I decided to build my first "cat-run" for my guys. I
decided to use the solarium off the side of my house. I added a wood structure
with a real roof and skylight for them. Inside I used natural cedar posts to
create landings and scratch posts. Many people seem to favor declawing their
cat but I always urge against this as it is really amputation! I have brand new
furniture and it has never received a single scratch!! My cats have three
floor-to-ceiling scratch posts in the house and plenty of real wood to scratch
outdoors.
Between my mom and
I we own over twenty cats. It is amazing how adopting one can open the doors for
others.
Below is a photo of
my oldest boy Simone relaxing on his leather couch.

Next is a photo of Panser (the mother) on the left, and her
daughter Khalu. In this house the cats are in charge of the remote.

Next, is Tamarin-Junior (TJ). He is such a solid little boy! He is in his
favorite spot - my laundry basket!

Next, is mom's favorite PJ or Panser-Junior sitting in the solarium:

Next, is my spa cat. Lucky came to me as a rescue and has never left. He was
very feral at first and it took me a year and a half to really pet him. He has
since become fast friends with me and demands pets. He has chosen to never leave
the spa!! He loves the other cats and never fights with anyone. In fact I use him
as my indicator cat to see if another cat is aggressive or not. He is so passive
and just steers clear of mean cats. He seems to think himself the caretaker of
the cat spa. If you come for a visit you will likely catch sight of him sunning
on his hammock for that is his favorite place to be!

In addition to my cats, I also have five horses. It used to be six but I lost
Saleme to a broken femur bone a few years back. Currently, I have Gailen, Aliyah,
Classy, Jaber and Saladin. Gailen is an older girl now in her twenties, as is
Aliyah. Classy is twelve and the two boys are eleven.
The following are some photos of
the horses in the field next to the cat spa. It is a great view for the kitties
and happens to be the horses favorite field!
