Cat's Paradise Spa and Boarding
Retreat supports local rescue groups in the Ottawa Valley including Heaven
Can Wait Ottawa Valley Cat Rescue. Currently we
are helping to find homes for cats and kittens from the local pound in Carleton
Place. Our small group of volunteers are very dedicated cat-lovers who do all
they can to help out needy cats. We are non-profit group that tries to fundraise
for cat charities. For older cats there is an adoption fee of $85; for a kitten we charge a nominal fee of $125.
This covers the cost of their spay or neuter.
This is our way of being responsible to the community and helping to control the
cat population while finding wonderful furr'ever homes for cats and kittens.
How to Contact Heaven Can Wait
Ottawa Valley Cat Rescue:
If you can’t adopt a cat or kitten
you can still help out by donating cat food or litter items for the shelter cats
at Natural Pet Foods shop. You can do this by dropping into Natural Pet Foods
either in Ottawa (at 339 Churchill Avenue North) or in Carleton Place (at 61
Bridge Street) See:
www.naturalpetfoods.ca for directions or call 613-253-PETS or 613-321-7282.
Lastly, you can help by supporting the local fundraising for the
shelter so that we can purchase new cat runs and cover the costs of vaccinations
and spay/neuters for the cats. Donations can be made at the shop
or directly at the shelter.
Our wish list include:
-
baby blankets, bowls, litter, cat
food etc for foster homes, the pound and our HCW orphanage facility at Natural
Pet Foods in Carleton Place
Kittens
Great news....three beautiful kittens arrived
from the pound. A grey kitty, a tabby male and a dilute calico. All three have
been adopted. HOORAY!
Our Valentine's Day Sweetheart, Juliet was
adopted into her new home in Carleton Place with two other cats and a very
loving owner!
Juliet is a sweet little orange and white cat
that loves to purr away in your arms. She is very cuddly and adorable.

Romeo and Juliet
Romeo is a laid-black, very large,
striking black and white male that was recently adopted. He is a really big fellow but he is extremely
gentle and has recently been neutered by HCW. He is unusual in that he adores dogs!!
**Charles (big tabby with white
male) the other boy we had in rescue has also been adopted by a lovely couple in
CP. Congrats!!!

Fletch is Your Man:
Fletch is a laid-back kinda
guy. At one year old he is already a relaxed fellow that just wants to curl up
on somebody's lap for a little TV. He is fully vaccinated and treated for
parasites.

Mopsy is an Elegant Lady:
Don't get fooled by a name.
Mopsy is a very fine long hair female of around two years. She would need weekly
brushing because of her long coat. Come meet her and you will see what I mean by
elegant. She has beautiful big green eyes that would captivate anyone.

We have two amazing kittens up
for adoption. The first one is Krissy. She is a fun-loving, very playful tabby
female of around 7 months of age. Krissy is already vaccinated including rabies.
She would be great in an active home where there are plenty of toys and people
to play with. This is a very affectionate cat. BOTH CATS ARE ADOPTED!!

Next up is Leroy. Leroy is the
sweetest little guy. He is only 5 months old and has a teeny, tiny little meow
that you would think is coming from a newborn! Leroy is already vaccinated,
including rabies. This is a real doll of a cat!

Dooley is the cutest little
black and white kitten. After convalescing at his foster mom's Dooley was
adopted out to the most wonderful loving home in Kanata where he now resides
with the other family cats and dog.

Charlie and Henry !
Charlie and Henry are two adorable four month old
boy kittens awaiting their furr'ever home. One of them has already been adopted
after only a week in the shop and the other is sure to go just as fast so please
come meet this dynamic duo. Both boys have received their first set of shots and
are anxiously awaiting a home of their own.

Pumpkin & Spooky are a Real Howl!
***BOTH KITTIES GOT ADOPTED INTO A FABULOUS HOME
TOGETHER AND ARE OH-SO-HAPPY THERE!! THANKS SHERRY!! These two little boys had a really rough start in
life. They grew up in the pound and eventually outgrew their cage there. They
saw their mother adopted but never seemed to get lucky themselves. The staff at
the pound didn't want to split them up to give them more space because they were
so attached to one another. "Pumpkin" is the more confident of the two and he
leads his little brother "Spooky" around. Spooky always follows his lead.
The rescue would very much like to see these two
beautiful brothers adopted together so that Pumpkin can continue to teach his
little brother how to manage. Because of that, it will be a two-for-one deal and
Spooky will be sponsored for his shots and neuter. We just hope these two guys
get a break soon!

HAPPY NEWS: The mother (Ali) and and her five
kittens have all been adopted in loving homes. Luckily, the mother was able to
keep one of the kittens by her side in her new home. Congrats to all the new
owners of these beautiful kittens.
Here are photos of the two kitties:

We got in seven kittens at once. It was sooooo
much fun! Immediately we had one adoption of the full black only boy in the
group. Next, we adopted out the two calico looking girls, then we adopted out
the mostly white kitten and now we are left with some gorgeous torti's. Please
see the rescue page to view who's left. Below are some photos of the girls that
are already adopted. Good luck to Denis, Susan and Jeff and Bobbi (who's often
called the kitty-grandma!) For good reason:-)

Jade is a Real Gem!
Jade another young female cat who is a real
gem. This cat loves to talk to you, she is fun-loving and would get along fine
with a busy household or dogs. She is up-to-date on all her vaccinations.

Next up we have a just beautiful orange and black young female cat called Trixie. She is the
most unusual colour I've ever seen (orange with black stripes). Trixie was
adopted by a fantastic family and she just adores their youngest daughter. She
has been renamed Sasha and is adjusting wonderfully with her new family!

Angel (renamed Sasha) and Her Baby Rosie
(renamed Cricket)
JThis beautiful black female mom cat
is only a year old. She is already spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations. She has a lovely gentle purr'sonality as does her baby. She has a tiny little meow for attention and is very people
oriented. She plays like a kitten and just looooves brushing. The picture below is a nice one but it doesn't even do her
justice - she is one stunning cat. BOTH THESE CATS WERE ADOPTED AND ARE HAPPY IN
THEIR NEW HOMES!!!

Oh Mickey, You’re so Fine! ADOPTED
His
name is Mickey and he had a rough start in life. But that hasn’t prevented this
sweet little boy from turning into an amazing cat. Mickey must have been on the
streets sometime before he found himself at the Travelling Paws kennel. He was
very skinny and a little ragged so he was often overlooked by potential owners
seeking younger cats. After several months at the kennel Mickey came to Heaven
Can Wait rescue. Within just a few weeks he has really turned around. From a cat
that used to hide from people, he now jumps down to play with a wand and demands
pets. He has been neutered and is up to date on all his vaccinations. He is a
very friendly cat but is still a bit timid. A home without dogs would be ideal
for this adorable feline.

Little Angel
This gorgeous female cat is around 6-7
months old. She is absolutely delightful! Little Angel is a very gentle passive
cat and as such she would be a wonderful addition to any home, including one
with children.
Little Angel has been
adopted as a companion cat for Sydney. She is now called Shiraz and just loves
her new home.

Formerly "Trooper", now "Mr. Noodles"
This lucky tabby cat was adopted by a
wonderful family. He just adores everyone including their young son!

Joey
Joey was adopted by a lovely
couple from Carleton Place. He certainly won alot of hearts but this seemed to
be the 'purr'fect' home for him.

“A Tale of Two Kitties” ADOPTED
Dickens was adopted by a lovely lady from Carleton Place!
Poor hungry kitty, there is no food for kitty. Can we
help? Of course, kitty! Debbie’s here, Scott and Bobbi’s here, the team from
Heaven Can Wait are here. Fear no more. A home will be found. The people from
Carleton Place and around will open their hearts and their doors to a kitty in
need. Your happiness is assured; you will go hungry no more!
This is the tale of Dickens, a lovely black and white male
kitten of around a year. We came to hear of Dickens from a lady that found him
lost and alone and very hungry. She felt sorry for Dickens but could not keep
him. Even so, she did not want anything bad to happen to Dickens so she made
arrangements for him to go to the shelter while he awaited coming into rescue.
This kind hearted benefactor also paid for his neuter. Dickens is the loveliest
cat you’d care to meet. He adores people and will rub his face against your chin
to show his gratitude. He is forever grateful for the care he gets and rewards
you with adoring purrs. If you can meet this little orphaned kitties ‘great
expectations’ he will return your love a thousand fold.

Alissa and Jacob; A Cat Cuddler’s Delight *ADOPTED
Originally the new owners of Alissa had chosen just the one kitty but upon
hearing that Jacob was missing his beloved Alissa it turns out they agreet to
give Jacob "a try". Both Jacob and Alissa were found together and were fast
friends so we are all delighted that they are together again!
We also oversee a
children’s group called “Helping Paws” that both fundraises and provides some
cat-cuddling for the rescued cats. This week I’d like to introduce the cats’
favorite cat-cuddler Sarah Dunnill. Sarah has kindly written this week’s
introduction to this week’s hopeful adoptees……
Jacob is a very cute solid
black cat, very adventurous, and very cuddly. He loves being petted and loves
attention. He will do almost anything he can for attention. He definitely always
knows what he wants, from just walking around and exploring, to getting all the
attention possible. He is very active. He should get a nice big home so he gets
lots of space to run around and explore in and also have lost of nice caring
people around who would love to play and pet him. He will always love anyone who
treats him nicely and will pet him.
Alissa **ADOPTED is so adorable; she
is very playful and adores being petted. I am very fond of her. Anywhere she
sees a hand she won’t hesitate to start rubbing against it. She loves playing
with anything. She would make anyone fall in love with her from the first time
anyone pets her. She has a very loud and adorable purr. She’d be the purr-fect
lap-cat. She too, is very adventurous but will always take a break from her
adventuring to be petted. When she purrs it goes on forever, even when you’re
done petting her she’ll still be purring, if you walk near her she’ll start
putting. It makes you want to pick her up once you see her. (Photo of Alissa

Meet Midget McGee! **ADOPTED
Lynn named this little guy McGee
and I named him midget so he became Midget McGee. He is a fun-loving,
super-affectionate little fellow who just loves life. We don't know what
happened to this little guy but he was picked up by animal bylaw early February
and was very, very skinny. He is now gaining lots of weight and has charmed
everyone including his foster mommy. He is black and white and has an extra
digit so he has huge paws. We think he is 3-4 months old. Midget McGee's foster
mom fell head over heels for this little guy and just could not bear the thought
of giving him up. He now lives with Lynn and her four-legged household of
felines. What a lucky kitty!

Meet Two Kittens! **ADOPTED
Two new kittens are coming in the
next couple of days. Josee and Putty (now called Misty) both went to wonderful
homes. They were hardly at the shop for long before they were scooped up!
Misty's mom is so in love with her. Josee is having fun with the two boys that
adopted her as well.
Meet Melvin **ADOPTED
This handsome fellow has
been living at the shelter for five whole months!!! We think he was quite
depressed at first but he has quickly adjusted to his new surroundings. He is
now living at 61 Bridge Street where you can come meet him. He is becoming a
talkative kitty and will rub up for pets or meow in greeting. He just loves
visitors and is such an easy-going laid back male cat of around two to three
years old. He would get along fine with dogs or other cats. We will be getting
Melvin neutered pre-adoption. Come meet him, as you are not likely to meet
another as calm and gentle as our dear Melvin. UPDATE: Melvin was adopted into a
house with a bunch of dogs - working dogs at that. He has settled into their
home purr'fectly. We will be putting a link to Melvin's mom's website where she
has a blog to all these wonderful animals.

Meet Mickey! **ADOPTED
Mickey is a long hair
grey neutered male of around 3 years. Sadly his older owner had to give
him up for medical reasons. I took Mickey in and just LOVED his
personality except that he does not get along with other cats. He would
be the sweetest little lapcat and would be a wonderful companion in a
cat-free house where he is able to rule the roost. UPDATE: Mickey
went to live with an older lady in Perth. It was interesting because
Mickey went willingly into the carrier, he hardly meowed at all the
whole way there. When he got to the lady's house he acted as if he had
always lived there! He went and ate the food that was set out for him
and then went over for some pets. What a fabulous ending for Mickey:-)

Meet Splash! ***ADOPTED
Next up is Splash, a male
black and white cat of around 3 yrs. Splash was living on the streets of
Ottawa until just before the big snowfall when a very kind lady took him
in. Christine has paid for his shots, health check and neuter. He then
spent a month with me and I was able to observe his cat-tonality. He is
very friendly and loves pets. UPDATE: Trisha adopted Splash as a
companion cat for her little sweety. She just loves him and has sent us
some great photos of the two of them....

at left is Splash with his new friend.
Meet Romeo! **Good News
- ADOPTED!!!
Four absolutely gorgeous
kittens of around 5-6 months came into rescue today (Jan 17) and are
looking for their furr'ever homes. They are the prettiest kitties
I have seen in a long time. **Three of the litter have already been
adopted. A male is left named Romeo. He is super friendly and outgoing.

brother Chubbs)

The five Disney
Princesses as we called them.....Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White
and Belle have all been adopted! The tabby and the black were both
adopted together, one little black and white got adopted to be keep
another cat company and the two remaining black and white kittens were
adopted by two little boys who just moved to Carleton Place. They
re-named these two sweethearts to Gandalf (because of the appearance of
a white beard) and Mittens (white paws). We wish everyone luck with
their new kitties.
Photos of the Disney
Princesses are below.

SUCCESSFUL FOREVER
HOMES!
A Very Happy Ending
for Mom and her 5 kittens!
Remember that -25 weather
we had not so long ago?
Well... this beautiful
black cat was rescued out of the cold by a caring individual and spent
her first few nights in warmth at Natural Pet Foods. "Mom" had 3
full black kittens and 2 grey kittens. They were born Saturday March
4th, 2006.
HAPPY ENDING'S: 1 black
kitty and 1 grey kitty, now named Billy and Louis Pawstrong are now
living in absolute kitty heaven with Duffy and Adrian in Galetta. NEWS:
Adrian and Duffy, true animal lovers, opened up their hearts and home to
the last little kitty and her mom. That means all 3 kitties and mommie
(now named Claudia) get to stay together!!!! Last seen, all three
kitties were roaming around a kitty gym and were in absolute heaven.
2 black kitties are now
living in Carleton Place with their new mom.
Whiskers - a fabulous
black and white spayed female has been adopted!. Her photo (and she is
so pretty) is below:
